I am such a lyrical snob and proud of it! Life is too short and crazy to let crappy words float around in your head. Now, I am not, by any means, saying there isn’t a time and place for less than stellar refrains. If I ever hear LMFAO’s “Shots“, I am instantly taken back to a little bar in Springfield Mass where the Bellarmine University community celebrated our first NCAA DII National Championship in basketball. “Shots, shots, shots…” played numerous times on the juke box and some of us (all of age) obliged!!
Back to the insanity of normal life…some days, strong lyrics are the only things that keep me energized. The Avett Brothers are tops in lyrical mastery. If I could pick only one group to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Scott, Seth, Bob and Joe…The Avett Brothers. But don’t ask me to pick a favorite song-that’s like picking a favorite child…wait, well nevermind. 😉 They range from the high energy, boot stomping “Talk on Indolence” to the calmer more insightful “Murder In The City”.
When I first started listening to The Avett Brothers, I couldn’t get enough of them….they consumed my ears. After a while, I forced myself to listen to other things…not because I got tired of TAB, but because I didn’t want to become ‘that’ person. You know who I am talking about…the person who is stuck on one group no matter what the year (or decade for that matter)!! And that first time I listened to TAB after expanding my horizons, it was like being reunited with my best friend, the one who always knows what to say when I need to hear it. I will continue to expanding my listening pleasures, but it is comforting to know The Avett Brothers will always be there to welcome me back! I’ve been lucky enough to see them live four times with two more on the horizon. Check out these clips and I dare you not to fall in love (yes, Joe Kwon does jump with his cello and sing at the top of his lungs, even though he isn’t mic’ed!!).
This one always gives me the chills….

My delay in reading this post is borderline inexcusable, but I would just like to say that I, for one, am very glad that LMFAO exists if solely for the purpose of supplying us with an anthem for the run to the championship! Love that BU Basketball! Here’s to another great season! :):) Go KNIGHTS!
